DonateOur first featured genre is the one that is normally on our stage at this time of year – the mystery/thriller! The mystery/thriller was once a theater staple - boasting some of the longest non-musical runs ever. In fact, Agatha Christie’s The Mousetrap still reigns as the longest-running play in theater history.
Our first mystery/thriller, in the “modern era,” debuted in 2012 when we produced Agatha Christie’s The Mousetrap. The audience response and popularity of the production cemented a spot for this genre within our subsequent season lineups through today. Since then, more Agatha Christie favorites (And Then There Were None and Witness for the Prosecution), as well as other mystery/thrillers (Deathtrap, Misery, Sleuth, etc.), have taken center stage at our Hanna Theatre home – many setting attendance records. Check out photos from our suspenseful past productions as we look forward to our upcoming season’s mystery/thriller offering, Agatha Christie’s Black Coffee!
Top Detective
Producing Artistic Director, Charles Fee has directed seven (out of nine) Great Lakes Theater mystery/thrillers since 2012.
Suspicious Actors
Aled Davies and Nick Steen hold the record for most appearances by actors in our mystery/thriller productions over the years with seven shows each (well, seven credited shows, for those of you who have seen Sleuth! ;) ).
Killer Design
Rick Martin, Lighting Designer, has designed six of our mystery/thrillers. Russell Metheny, Scenic Designer, and Kim Krumm Sorensen, Costume Designer have designed five shows each from this genre.
Popular Perpetrator
Three of our nine recent mystery/thrillers were penned by Agatha Christie. All three have set Great Lakes Theater attendance records. Northeast Ohio LOVES Agatha Christie! We look forward to producing our fourth Agatha Christie mystery/thriller, Black Coffee, in 2022!
