Great Lakes Theater Launches Two Summer Drama Camps for Students

CLEVELAND, OH - Great Lakes Theater, Cleveland’s Classic Company will present a pair of summer drama camps for students (ages 4-18) this summer in partnership with Berea High School and Laurel School.

CAMP THEATER! is a summer theater camp for students ages 4-18 at Berea-Midpark High School (June 9-20, 2014) that immerses students in interactive and educational theater-based activities. CAMP THEATER! is a unique opportunity for students to work with and learn from Great Lakes Theater’s professional teaching artists in a fun, safe and supportive environment. Daily classes will be held at Berea-Midpark High School in one-week sessions from Monday through Friday. Students may enroll in one or both weeklong sessions. Different material will be covered each week. The program is designed for students of all levels of experience and ability. There is no audition required. Classes will be divided by students’ respective ages. The drama camp features classes in acting, Shakespeare, movement, improvisation, stage combat, mask making and much more!

THE SHAKESPEARE INTENSIVE AT LAUREL is a summer Shakespeare intensive for students entering grades 9-12 at Laurel School’s 140-acre Butler Campus (August 4-16, 2014). This performance intensive will focus on William Shakespeare’s classic comedy Twelfth Night. The camp is designed to challenge and enhance the skills and capacities of performers. Students will engage in a professional training program to hone their acting techniques and abilities and leverage the experience as a springboard to theater apprentice programs across the nation. The conservatory-style intensive will include focused voice, movement, text, stage combat, monologue and scene work that will culminate in two fully staged performances of Twelfth Night.
