Great Lakes Theater Honors 50 Stars to Commemorate 50th Anniversary Season

CLEVELAND, OH In honor of its fiftieth anniversary season in 2011-12, Great Lakes Theater (GLT), Cleveland’s professional classic company, will honor “Fifty Stars” - individuals and organizations whose contributions to the theater have shone the brightest over the company’s five-decade history. The list of honorees was developed through an extensive nomination process and finalized by a panel of community leaders, GLT trustees and key staff members.

To commemorate the contributions of its “Fifty Stars,” the company will feature the name of each honoree on the marquee of its Hanna Theatre home for a full week beginning in July and continuing throughout its fiftieth anniversary season. Completing the fifty-two week calendar, the names of William Shakespeare and Charles Dickens have also been included to recognize the significant role that their literary work has played in Great Lakes Theater programming over the past fifty years. In addition to marquee placement, the honorees will be recognized in a narrative component published in all GLT 2011-12 playbills, on a special banner in the Hanna Theatre lobby throughout the season and, finally, at the Great Lakes Theater’s fiftieth anniversary gala on
January 7, 2012.

“Over the past fifty years, tens of thousands of individuals have contributed to the success and longevity of Great Lakes Theater,” said GLT Producing Artistic Director, Charles Fee. “The process of developing the extraordinary list of individuals that we are honoring this season was both rewarding and humbling. Every one of the Stars on our list represents at least another fifty people out there that also deserve our gratitude. On this occasion, we are proud to thank all of the individuals that have given generously of their time, shared their talent, provided support or bought a ticket to a Great Lakes Theater performance over the past five decades. We’re extremely grateful and we look forward to the next exciting fifty years!”
