DonateHoliday shows are a staple in many theater repertoires. From small, edgy shows like The Santaland Diaries to the more traditional holiday productions like A Christmas Carol, theaters across the globe bring holiday cheer to their audiences through these festive productions.
In 1982, Great Lakes Theater began exploring this genre as it produced A Child's Christmas in Wales under Artistic Director, Gerald Freedman. Though this show was given a repeat production in 1983, GLT would not revisit a holiday show again until 1989. This pivotal year was when Gerald Freedman's lavish interpretation of Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol was first produced. This classic has held a place in both the hearts of NEO audiences and the GLT season line-up ever since! Take a journey through our historic holiday offerings via the production photos below.

Seamless StagingA Christmas Carol was originally adapted and directed by Great Lakes Theater's then Artistic Director, Gerald Freedman.
