Synopsis
Misery follows successful romance novelist Paul Sheldon, who is rescued from a car crash by his “Number One Fan,” Annie Wilkes, and wakes up captive in her secluded home. While Paul is convalescing, Annie reads the manuscript to his newest novel and becomes enraged when she discovers the author has killed off her favorite character, Misery Chastain. Annie forces Paul to write a new “Misery” novel, and he quickly realizes Annie has no intention of letting him go anywhere. The irate Annie has Paul writing as if his life depends on it, and it does.
“There are no lulls in famed screenwriter William Goldman’s 90-minute stage adaptation of the Stephen King story, which Goldman himself translated into the 1990 film…Exposition that took a dozen pages in paperback and at least several minutes on screen plays out…faster than snow piling up in a Colorado blizzard.” —NBC New York.

THEATER REVIEW: "Misery" @ Great Lakes Theatre
By Laura Kennelly, Cool Cleveland
"Well played, Great Lakes Theater!...Bravo to Charles Fee’s insightful direction, the fine cast and some terrific special effects. Misery had opening night viewers wincing in sympathetic pain one minute, terrorized another and laughing in the next (yes, there’s humor there)."

MISERY is darkly delightful at Great Lakes Theater
By Kate Klotzbach, Cleveland Performing Arts Writer
"Director Charles Fee has woven a wonderfully wicked production. The sense of expectancy and dread comes on slowly, but is ever-present from the beginning of the play. The overarching feeling of anxiety follows the entire performance, sometimes manifesting as revulsion, pity, fear, panic, plotting, and slow-moving terror. "

I love how in this photo you can see the books have the titles of the Misery series (hooray for little details). The set is AMAZING and it has a vivid and eerie presence that really works with the small and very talented cast.
