A Message from Charles Fee, Producing Artistic Director & Bob Taylor, Executive Director...

We are saddened to share the extremely difficult news that we must cancel the first two productions of Great Lakes Theater’s 2020-21 season, Jane Austen’s Emma and Shakespeare’s Henry VAfter much deliberation, we have determined that it is too early in this pandemic for the safe rehearsal and performance of such large-cast shows. Despite our concerted efforts, sometimes the show cannot go on, especially when the health and safety of our patrons, artists, and staff is our top priority.

We are committed to your satisfaction as a valued patron of Great Lakes Theater. We thank you in advance for your patience as we navigate the complexities of this situation and strive to provide customer service of the highest quality.

The following options are available to resolve your existing tickets to our cancelled 2020 fall productions:

Donate the value of your ticket(s) back to Great Lakes Theater. We are especially grateful for such vital support. Your donation will go a long way toward ensuring our future during this challenging time. An acknowledgement letter that formally recognizes your tax-deductible donation will be mailed to you soon. Additionally, we look forward to celebrating your generosity by including your name in future donor recognition lists on our website and within our playbill publications.

Regarding the remaining productions in our 2020-21 season: We are working closely with our partners at Playhouse Square, the unions that represent our artists, and state/local government health officials to explore how we can safely present A Christmas Carol. We are also exploring myriad programming options regarding how we might produce in the winter/spring of 2021. We will keep you apprised of developments and share definitive updates as our path forward becomes clearer.

On behalf of all of us at Great Lakes Theater, we thank you for your understanding, loyalty, and continued extraordinary support as we navigate this journey - and endure this extended “intermission” - together. We look forward to gathering with you in the Hanna Theatre when the time is right and safe.

In the meantime, as a lodestar to guide us as we navigate through these challenges, we share a quote from William Shakespeare.

“Have patience and endure.”

Stay safe! We wish you well.
