CLEVELAND, OH – In honor of its fiftieth anniversary season in 2011-12, Great Lakes Theater (GLT), Cleveland’s professional classic company, will honor “Fifty Stars” - individuals and organizations whose contributions to the theater have shone the brightest over the company’s five-decade history. The list of honorees was developed through an extensive nomination process and finalized by a panel of community leaders, GLT trustees and key staff members.
To commemorate the contributions of its “Fifty Stars,” the company will feature the name of each honoree on the marquee of its Hanna Theatre home for a full week beginning in July and continuing throughout its fiftieth anniversary season. CLEVELAND, OH – Great Lakes Theater Festival, Cleveland’s professional classic theater company, will streamline its name to Great Lakes Theater (GLT) beginning this summer. The company’s move to eliminate the word Festival from its name is designed to establish a succinct moniker for the regional theater that accurately reflects its current seasonal structure and artistic programming.
Originally founded in 1962 as the Great Lakes Shakespeare Festival, the theater’s name was changed to Great Lakes Theater Festival in 1985 to reflect the company’s interest in diversifying production offerings beyond the work of Shakespeare. The company transitioned from a festival-style producing model to a seasonal structure in 1991.

CLEVELAND, OH – Charles Fee, Producing Artistic Director of Great Lakes Theater Festival (GLTF), unveiled an expanded season to commemorate the classic theater company’s fiftieth anniversary. The new season, which will include an additional sixth production, is scheduled to run from September 2011 through June 2012 at PlayhouseSquare’s Hanna and Ohio Theatres. “Since our successful move to the Hanna Theatre in 2008, we began to imagine growing to a six-play season,” said GLTF Producing Artistic Director, Charles Fee of the Festival’s expanded offerings. “Our fiftieth anniversary is the perfect opportunity to celebrate our history and point toward our future with this exciting development in our company.”
