What is a Surround?
"Surround" is an umbrella term that refers to a series of free Great Lakes education programs designed to connect audiences to our spring productions. While our free outreach touring play is the primary Surround program, there are others, including: pre-show discussions in the Hanna Theatre, a student play writing festival, a student designed lobby exhibit and a Shakespearean song writing competition for students. Whether you can participate in any or all of our Surround events or know someone who can, we hope that exploring classic plays from new and exciting perspectives helps people to make meaningful connections between classic literature and the issues in their own lives. And if that inspires you to come downtown to see our work in the Hanna Theatre this spring, all the more reason to celebrate!
